Daithi Mac Gabhann has been figҺting Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) since infancy and is an advocate for оrgan donation.

As he continues to wait for a heart transplant donor, the seven-year-old is becoming more and more dependent on a wheelchair and oxygen.

Daithi has been awaiting the potentially life-saving surgery for more than 2,000 days.

The Belfast native has spearheaded the ‘Donate4Daithi’ campaign alongside his parents, Mairtin and Seph, while he waits.

Because of the family’s tenacity, the legislation has changed and awareness of оrgan donation has grown.

Robin Swann, the former Health Minister, drafted legislation for a mild opt-out, which the Executive passed in 2021.

Daithi’s Law was permitted to proceed, but it was postponed following the Executive’s fall in February 2022.

After then, it passed Westminster, and the law became operative in June.

Daithi was taken off the list in the summer due to his failing health, but he was able to get back on it in July after going to Newcastle for heart surgery.

Since then, both Daithi and his father Mairtin have received the esteemed Spirit of NI Award and the title of Best Social Media Campaign in Charity.

Daithi had a unique moment with his idols despite all the difficult circumstances the family has faced.

The young child was visited by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, along with the team’s star player Mo Salah, who both grinned alongside him.

As a Ԁie-hard Liverpool fan, Daithi saw it as “Christmas come early.”

Fresh from an incredible Premier League victory, Klopp and Salah helped the Merseyside team defeat Fulham 4-3 at Anfield with a late goal.

Only minutes after Wataru Endo tied the score at three, local boy Trent Alexander-Arnold struck home the winning goal in the 88th minute, making him the hero.

Earlier in the game, Alexander-Arnold struck an incredible free kιck as well.

Daithi is happy that Liverpool is now ahead of Man City in the Premier League standings.

The Reds will be vying for their second Premier League title and their 20th overall in English football as they sit just two points behind table-toppers Arsenal.
