MU gutted Newcastle: Stealing transfer expert, Sir Ratcliffe’s mark

MU is about to get the signature of the person who “discovered” the talent of Moise Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma for Brighton or Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon for Newcastle.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has just officially taken over MU from the Glazer family and the British billionaire is about to make his first big move. The Daily Mail reported that MU is about to reach an agreement to recruit Dan Ashworth from Newcastle to fill the position of sporting director. Most likely this deal will be scheduled early next week.

Newcastle’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, will move to work for MU next week

Dan Ashworth, 53 years old, is working as Newcastle’s sports director. He is highly appreciated for his ability to find players. Since the 2019/20 season until now, Dan Ashworth has made 33 transfer deals for Brighton and Newcastle and most of them have been very successful.

Among them, it is worth noting that there are many famous names in the current Premier League such as Mac Allister (switched to Liverpool), Leandro Trossard (switched to Arsenal), Moise Caicedo (switched to Chelsea) or Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma. These are all “cheap” deals but bring great value both professionally and financially.

When moving to Newcastle in 2022, Dan Ashworth continues to help “Magpies” recruit very quality names such as Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Harry Barnes or Sandro Tonali.

The question is, how did MU, or more precisely, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team, attract Dan Ashworth? The answer lies with INEOS group sporting director, Sir Dave Brailsford. He is a close friend of Dan Ashworth, so negotiations went quite easily.

Actually, the problem still lies on Newcastle’s side. Dan Ashworth has not been given as much power as expected at St James’s Park. Financial fairness laws make the Magpies forced to cut spending plans during the winter transfer period and the upcoming summer transfer period.

Therefore, Dan Ashworth wanted to change his working situation and MU couldn’t be a more ideal destination. According to Daily Mail sources, this deal is only waiting for MU to reach an agreement on compensation fees with Newcastle. The remaining issues have basically reached general consensus. Dan Ashworth is expected to continue to “shine” at MU with quality contracts in the next transfer period.
